ROBOT obstacle courses and gauss guns were at the centre of the show at a hands-on science demostration at AWE Aldermaston on July 8 and 11.

More than 100 year 12 students from Little Heath, The Downs, Willink and Theale Green schools, as well as Newbury College, got the chance to develop their skills at the scientific hub.

AWE graduates provided the students with five experiments that covered a range of STEM fields, including robotics, cryptography and forensics.

Sophie Arbon, from the Education Business Partnership who helped organise the event, said: “These events were exciting opportunities to inspire and motivate our future workforce to want to choose careers in these sectors.

“Talking directly to young employees at the start of their working lives to understand their career paths is very influential and having practical demonstrations and experiments is a brilliant way to motivate and inspire young people to consider a STEM career path.

“I’d like to thank all AWE volunteers for their time and hard work over the past few weeks to create a successful event.”
