POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Newbury at the weekend.

A 24-year-old man was threatened at knifepoint by two men as he was walking through an alleyway leading from Victoria Park to Robinhood Roundabout. The incident happened at around 5.10pm on Saturday afternoon (July 16)

The offenders asked the victim for the time, before threatening him with two knives, demanding he give them his wallet and phone. 

The victim was not injured, however his phone and money were stolen. 

The first offender is described as white, 5ft 1in tall, aged between 16 and 20-years-old and of medium build. He was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket. The second offender was around 5ft 6ins tall, with a slimmer build and he was also wearing a dark hooded jacket at the time.

Det Con Brian Lock, based at Newbury Force CID, , said: "We would like to reassure the community that we are investigating this robbery and I would appeal to anybody who has any information as to the identity of the offender to come forward to police on the non-emergency number 101.

"We would also be grateful for any witnesses who may have seen two men in the park earlier in the evening to come forward."
