A NEWBURY man who attacked a pub-goer by biting his victim has begun a 12-and-a-half year jail sentence.
Dean Long, 36, from Bartholomew Street, attacked the man at the Nags Head pub in Newbury in June last year.
His victim was enjoying an evening out at the pub when Long attacked him by biting him on the face and abdomen.
Long pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent on the first day of his trial at Reading Crown Court.
Sgt James Chapman, based at Newbury police station, said that the length of the sentence by the judge should serve as a deterrent.
He said: “Long viciously assaulted his victim in an unprovoked attack.
“The victim is still recovering from the injuries he sustained and requires ongoing treatment, I hope that he will soon recover and is able to move on from this ordeal.
“The significant sentence handed out by the judge is a stark warning that violence will not be tolerated and intoxication provides no excuse.
“The work of the investigation team in this case has been very thorough and their dedication to get justice for the victim has been exemplary.”
