The residents of The Boltons Home for the Elderly got a big surprise when a huge star visited their care home.

Singing sensation Lulu paid the service users a visit on Friday January 26 for an afternoon of ‘Tea and Song.’

Along with Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun presenter Lee Juggurnauth, Lulu personally spoke to every resident as they sat in the living room of The Boltons.

Speaking to care assistants at the home, Lulu asked about each elderly person and how long they had been in their care.

A particularly poignant moment was when Lulu sat and held the hand of Yvonne whilst busily chatting. She was extremely gentle with all the residents and gave them all her attention.

With two dogs in tow, Lulu asked one resident Tim if he liked dogs before announcing “I’m going to sing a song for all of you” to resident Elsie.

Lulu chose one of her biggest hits ‘Shout’ to perform for the residents. She started the song sat down at one of the tables but then quickly got up and grabbed resident Yvonne’s hand for a “boogie.”

She then danced through the living room with Yvonne and everyone joined in with the singing, calling back to her on the back and forth “Hey hey hey hey” part of the song.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed her performance and there were even a few tears shed by members of the resident’s family after seeing their relatives in such high spirits.

Lulu said “There is an epidemic of lonely older people, so places like this are so important. To find a place where people have a community like this one is so rare.

“It’s like an oasis in the desert, this place is filled with such kindness.”

The Boltons Home, situated on 2-4 College Road, is a bright and sunny care home close to central Reading.

Owned by Mr Juggurnauth’s mother Premila Juggurnauth, the home has been running for 37 years.

Mr Juggurnauth said “I basically grew up here. I never had grandparents growing up, so the residents became like members of my family. It’s a really special place.”

Owner of The Boltons Premila Juggurnauth said that she was very pleased that Lulu paid a visit to her care home’s residents.

“It’s been so nice for the residents,” she said. “It’s a shame we couldn’t have had all their families there as so many people wanted to come.”
